Here at Alma, we’re usually all about the bright and white spaces, but today we’re changing things up on you with a warm & rustic design in #thetonkahouse dining room! Our favorite feature? The amazing built-in buffet with an exposed brick backsplash! We can’t wait to tell you all about it!
Similar to #thetonkahouse kitchen, the dining room had all the right components, but was stuck in the 90’s (you know the drill – outdated furniture, non-functional layout). Our clients wanted an elegant space with a rustic touch that would be accommodating for guests and entertaining.
As you can see below, the room previously had a step in the center of the room that separated the dining and living room space. We raised the sunken living room and created one large dining room space to accommodate their large dining table. In the center of the room, we wrapped the cased opening with a wooden beam to add in a little farmhouse style and a focal point.
Now, to our favorite part of this room – the built-in buffet! Prior to remodeling, the built-in buffet was lackluster and overall, just felt blah. We wanted to transform it into an entertainment nook with plenty of storage for wine and cocktail necessities. So, we ripped out the upper cabinets and installed a thin brick backsplash. The cabinets were replaced with two wine racks and reclaimed wood shelving, which makes this little nook feel so much more open, while exuding character.
So, there you have it! We couldn’t be happier with how this space came together for our clients! TELL US — What is your favorite part about this dining room?
