welcome home

Working with a professional interior designer is an exciting and collaborative experience that can transform your home into a space that perfectly reflects your style and meets your needs. But if you’ve never been through the process before, it can feel a little overwhelming. From the first meeting to the final design presentation, there’s a lot that goes into creating the perfect home, and we’re here to guide you through every step.

At our firm, we break the design process down into a series of structured meetings designed to ensure we capture every detail of your vision while also giving you the freedom to make thoughtful decisions. Here’s an overview of what you can expect during our typical selection meeting process.

Step 1: The In-Depth Questionnaire – Laying the Foundation

Before we even begin talking about furniture, colors, or finishes, we ask all our clients to fill out an in-depth questionnaire. This is one of the most important parts of the process because it helps us understand your personal style, lifestyle needs, and preferences.

Examples of what the questionnaire covers:

  • Your preferred color palette
  • Desired ambiance and vibe (cozy, modern, rustic, etc.)
  • Functional needs (storage requirements, room flow, etc.)
  • Any design inspirations or must-have elements

Once we receive the completed questionnaire, we use it as the foundation for the next step: creating mood boards that will give you a visual representation of your design direction.

Step 2: Creating Mood Boards – Bringing Your Vision to Life

With the information gathered from your questionnaire, we start crafting mood boards that reflect your aesthetic preferences. These mood boards are inspiration images of materials, and design elements that help bring your vision to life.

At our first selection meeting, we present these mood boards to you. The goal is to make sure we’re on the same page in terms of the overall look and feel of your home. It’s also an opportunity to tweak any design ideas if something doesn’t resonate with you, so we can make sure we’re heading in the right direction.

Step 3: The Selection Process – Picking Every Single Detail

Once we’ve agreed on the general design direction, we dive into the heart of the process: selecting the finishes, fixtures, and materials for every room in the home. This includes every interior and exterior finish, down to the smallest details.

We typically hold 3-4 meetings over the course of a few weeks, each one spaced about a week apart. During these meetings, we focus on each space individually, ensuring we’re taking everything into account.

Some things we cover include:

Interior Selections:
We start by discussing the design choices for each individual room in the home, from the floors to the ceilings. Some of the key decisions include:

Flooring:
Hardwood, tile, carpet, or luxury vinyl—whatever suits your style and needs.

Cabinetry:
We help you choose cabinet profiles, materials, and finishes that complement the space.

Tile:
From backsplash to bathroom walls, we choose the right tile materials, colors, and layouts.

Plumbing Fixtures:
Faucets, showerheads, and sinks that reflect your style and functional needs.

Door Styles and Hardware:
Whether it’s for interior doors, closet doors, or entry doors, we select the right styles and finishes.

Lighting:
We choose lighting fixtures that not only fit the aesthetic of each room but also provide the right amount of light for your daily activities.

Exterior Selections:
If you’re building a new home or making significant changes to the exterior, we’ll help you choose every material that makes up the outer shell of your home, including:

  • Siding materials (wood, fiber cement, stone, etc.)
  • Window color and trim
  • Gutters and downspouts
  • Exterior hardware (doorknobs, light fixtures, etc.)

Step 4: Custom Cabinet Drawings & More – Tailored to You

One of the unique aspects of our process is that we create custom cabinet drawings to maximize storage and organization based on your specific needs. Whether you need a dedicated place for your kitchen appliances or want custom shelving in your home office, we design cabinets that fit your space like a glove.

We also provide tile layouts to ensure your tile is installed in the most visually appealing way. This includes specifying patterns, grout lines, and precise tile placement so that your design vision is executed exactly as you imagined.

For bathrooms, we’ll also sketch out mirror and light placements to ensure they’re the right size and positioned perfectly for function and design.

Step 5: Pricing – Getting It All in Your Budget

Once we’ve made all the selections, we send everything out to our trusted suppliers and contractors for pricing. This typically takes about 3 weeks, depending on the complexity of the project. Once we receive the pricing back, we review it and send it to you with a detailed breakdown so that you can see exactly where your budget is going.

We always work within your budget to make sure the selections we’ve chosen are affordable without sacrificing quality or design integrity. If there are any issues with staying on budget, we’ll work with you to make adjustments and find cost-effective alternatives.

Working with a professional interior designer is all about collaboration, communication, and careful attention to detail. Our selection process ensures that every decision, from the big picture down to the smallest details, is thoughtfully considered and aligned with your vision.

Whether you’re designing a new home or remodeling an existing one, we’re here to guide you through the process and make sure the final result is exactly what you’ve imagined—down to every last finish.
