welcome home

For many of us, guest bedrooms are put on the back burner. They are the extra room in the house that becomes the jack-of-all-trades and needs to be quickly thrown together and organized every time a guest is coming over.

Even though they can be difficult to upkeep, we believe guest bedrooms are one of the most important rooms in a house. This is the place where your family and friends will be staying, so you want them feeling as comfortable as possible. We have a 5 simple tips you can follow to create the perfect guest space and make your guests feel like royalty!

TIP 1: GOOD BEDDING

When it comes to guest bedrooms, clean & cozy bedding is a must. The last thing you want is crabby guests because they didn’t get a good night’s rest!

Prep the bed with soft sheets (we are huge fans of linen) and make sure they are washed & clean. For blankets, choose a lightweight down comforter and layer blankets on top. This way guests have control over their temperature at night.

TIP 2: COMFORTABLE BED

Our favorite beds have always been the ones we can jump in and feel like we’re lying on a cloud. So, if you don’t have the budget for a pillow-top mattress, we highly recommend a foam mattress topper. They’re pretty inexpensive, but make a huge difference in the comfort factor – plus, no one likes a sore back or neck in the morning!

We all know how hard it is to leave our pillow behind at home while traveling, so another tip would be to include a variety pillows (ranging from soft to firm) on your guests bed. This way they can choose one that matches their needs!

TIP 3: WELCOME KIT

It’s the absolute worst feeling when you’re staying at someone’s house and you realize you forgot your tooth brush or your hairbrush. This is why we like to add a few of the essentials – toothbrush, toothpaste, travel shampoo, lip balm – so guests don’t have to be embarrassed if they forget any of the essentials! It’s a gesture that screams good hospitality and that .99 cent toothbrush definitely will not break the bank!

In addition to toiletries, you will earn bonus points by adding a few healthy snacks and magazines on the shelf, this will satisfy your guests cravings in between meals and give them something to do since they’re not in their usual living situation.

Last, set out some chocolate or another sweet treat on their pillow or bedside table, this will definitely win your guests hearts…and stomachs!

TIP 4: FRESH FLOWERS

Many times, guests arrive at your house after enduring a chaotic airport, long flight or tiring car ride. Before your guests come, head to your closest flower market and grab some fresh blooms and greenery to place on their bedside table, you could even add a sweet note. This is an easy gesture that goes a long way!

TIP 6: WIFI PASSWORD

Last, but not least, display your wifi password. It’s going to be one of the first things they ask for, so why not make it easy for them?! You could even have it be part of your decorations by framing it or writing it out on a cute chalkboard sign.

Now tell us, what are your must haves for guest rooms?!  Did we forget any essentials?!

My brother is building a guest house on his property this year and I think it’s a good idea to make it nice. Our parents will be staying there a lot and they are getting older, so it would be better for them to have a nice bed. I like that you mentioned getting a pillow-top mattress if it’s possible so that the guests can feel like they are sleeping on a cloud.
