It’s the age-old dilemma. You move in, decide to renovate, or build your new home, but that means picking paint colors. You spend hours in the paint aisle looking at samples, paint test strips on the walls of each room, and go back and forth between shades of the same color for days. How does one possibly decide?! Today we’re helping you out with some of our current favorite paint color options, and giving you some fun facts about how the colors you choose can actually affect your mood!
Neutrals (White & Grey)
While at first, all white might sound a little boring, but white and grey rooms tend to feel peaceful, classic, and clean, and are perfectly ready to accent! Not to mention, light wall colors make a room feel so much bigger. It’s no secret we love designing neutral spaces. The key to a neutral room is your accent colors – add metals, lots of wood accents, or pops of black or bright colors (or a combination!) to keep neutrals from feeling sterile.
Dark Colors
On the opposite end of the spectrum, you can go dark with black or dark green, blue or grey. These are definitely dramatic, but effective! Black is known for being a color to represent power, and that’s definitely apparent with this dark and moody office in The Tonka House! The dark brick and dark grey trim and shelving give this office majorly powerful, masculine and productive vibes.
Blue
Blue is known for being popular in bedrooms and bathrooms, and for good reason: it’s associated with feelings of calm and relaxation, which is perfect for your home. We try to lean toward more neutral blues – think blue-grey vs. royal blue – in order to keep your home looking classic.
Green
Green is another commonly used bedroom paint color, because it’s also calming and stress-relieving, and reminds us of nature! Again, shoot for a neutral green rather than bright – you want your space to feel relaxing, not overwhelming! An accent wall of a darker green is a great choice, too.
Bright Colors
While we don’t use them often, sometimes a pop of bright color is exactly what a room needs. Bright colors (think oranges, yellows, pinks) bring energy and happiness to a room – not to mention, they’re so much FUN! Rather than painting an entire room, though, we tend to stick to an accent wall or fixture to bring all the excitement without overwhelming the space.
