Looking to spruce up that mantel of yours? You’re in the right place! We think it’s important to have a well designed mantel because your fireplace is typically the focal point of your living room. So, today we’re sharing four easy ways to style your mantel and add the perfect pop to your space.

TIP 1: ADD ARTWORK

We are huge fans of a good piece of art above the mantel.  Not only does it add interest, but it also sets the mood for your space. Plus, there are so many great options — from watercolors to floral prints, abstract paintings to quotes.  And as an added bonus, you can use the colors in the artwork to help tie together the colors in the rest of your room.

TIP 2: LAYER

I often find that the primary art piece will act as the backdrop, or the furthermost layer.  If you have a TV above your fireplace, this is often a substitute for artwork. From there, you want to make sure you incorporate different layers.  So try grouping small items (candles, vases, smaller artwork, lanterns), in groups of two or three in front of your “backdrop,” and make sure you vary the heights (this is important!)

TIP 3: ADD GREENERY

I bet you didn’t see this one coming, did you?! 🙂 Greenery, whether it be eucalyptus or flowers of some sort, are ALWAYS included when I style mantles.  I love the way it helps to add life to the space, and the great thing is it can help add a different height into your layers.

TIP 4: KEEP IT SIMPLE

I’m pretty sure this is my number one tip when it comes to design in general.  Keep it simple.  Don’t clutter things – don’t overdo it.  Pick a few key pieces you really love and go with it.  Otherwise you run the risk of your mantel feeling too busy.

There you have it!  What are your favorite ways to style your mantel?  Share them in the comments below!
