welcome home

So, you’re thinking about installing a home golf simulator? Congratulations! You’re about to elevate your golf game without ever leaving your house. No more waiting on slow foursomes or battling the elements—just pure, uninterrupted swings (except for when your dog decides to chase your golf ball).

Sizes

Ceiling Height: We highly recommend 11-foot ceilings, but if you’re really squeezing it in, 10 feet is the bare minimum. Anything lower, and you’re at risk of turning your driver into a ceiling fan. Plus, there’s a lot of factors to consider including, user height, swing style, and the club being used. Play it safe and go as tall as possible!

Room Width: Ideally, 15 feet gives you plenty of space to swing freely, but if you’re a precision player (or willing to keep your elbows tucked in), you might get by with less such as 11 feet. You should also consider if you’ll have both right and left hand swinger. If so, that will require the ideal width of 15 feet.

Depth: The simulator itself needs at least 15 feet of depth, but if you want a proper setup with a seating area, shelves for your clubs, or even a little bar nook, aim for at least 18 feet or more! You don’t want to feel like you’re teeing off inside a broom closet.

Screen: You’ll want to allow about 12-16 inches of space between the screen and the wall behind it to build in buffer space.

Materials

Turf & Flooring: A high-quality hitting mat is essential unless you enjoy chronic back pain. The right turf will absorb shock and feel like a fairway (without the divots).

Impact Screen: You’ll want a durable screen that can withstand ball speeds of over 150 mph. Otherwise, your walls might become an unintended hazard.

Projector & Tech: A high-lumen projector is a must to get those crisp, lifelike visuals. And for the love of all things golf, make sure your launch monitor is accurate!

Bonus Features

Seating Areas: A comfy couch or a couple of barstools behind the hitting zone make it a great place to hang out.

Built-in Cabinets: Storage for your clubs, balls, and gear keeps the space tidy and stops you from tripping over loose tees. Plus, you can add a lock to the cabinets if you don’t want your clumsy kids getting in and trying out your new driver.

Bar Overlook or Railing: Nothing says ‘ultimate home golf setup’ like a designated spot for your drink while you line up your next shot. This setup is perfect if you like to entertain so that you’re not all cramped and standing awkwardly behind whoever is golfing, waiting for your turn!

Final Thoughts: Worth It? Absolutely.

Sure, a home golf simulator requires a little planning (and some measuring tape), but once it’s set up, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. Whether you’re working on your swing, competing with friends, or just enjoying a round at St. Andrews without the airfare, it’s an investment in your game and your home.

Just remember—don’t skimp on the ceiling height. Your drywall (and your driver) will thank you!
