Did you catch last week’s post about some of our design pet peeves?! Well, we told you it was just part one of two, so here’s the rest of our list – this time focused more on decor choices rather than strictly home design.
Incorrectly hung curtains
We see this one a ton, even from people that have pretty good decor taste! Many people have curtains that don’t touch the floor, which is actually incorrect; curtains should not stop at your window trim, they should come all the way down to the floor. Give it a try and we bet you’ll be super happy with how great it looks – and they’ll make your room look taller, too!
Incorrectly placed art
We commonly see art that is hung too low or too high on the wall, when it should be in the happy middle, right at eye level. If you’re stuck, aim for the middle of the piece to hit at about 58-60 inches off the ground.
Too-small rugs
It drives us crazy to see rugs that are too small for the room. In case you aren’t sure about rug size, remember that furniture should be placed on the rug, not floating around it.
Everything matching
Of course you want your home to look cohesive and follow a specific design style, but it can sometimes go too far into “matchy matchy” territory (think bedroom sets or all decor in the same color) Instead of making everything match, keep your focus on coordination – pick a decor style or two, and a general color scheme, and then feel free to think outside the box! Colors and patterns can absolutely be mix-and-matched in a super tasteful way.
Anything that says “Live, Laugh, Love”
Honestly, this one speaks for itself ????
