Gray might not be at the top of your list of go-to paint colors (nor is it really that fun to pick out), but it’s one that interior designers rely on time and time again for its versatility. The timeless color works in a variety of spaces within the home, whether it’s a dining area or a bedroom design scheme. It’s important to note that gray is one of the most challenging colors to select due to its shifting undertones and sensitivity to natural light levels. So, before you pick up a gallon of paint, check out our roundup of go-to shades of gray:
Benjamin Moore 1602 Gunmetal
Gunmetal by Benjamin Moore is a classic paint color that works with traditional or modern decor. We decided to use Gunmetal in the #jenningsbayreno kitchen to add a striking pop of contrast on the kitchen island and tie in the modern meets industrial design aesthetic.
Benjamin Moore 1580 Intrigue
Intrigue by Benjamin Moore is a classic paint color that works with traditional or modern decor. This hue of gray is quickly becoming one of our favorites for its calming, green undertones that bring a sense of serenity to cabinets and walls alike. We used Intrigue in the mudroom/laundry room for the custom cabinetry at the #eaganremodel.
Sherwin Williams 7674 Peppercorn
Sherwin Williams Peppercorn is a rich and creamy dark gray that brings a highly pigmented yet refined touch to various spaces; kitchen islands, cabinets, and exteriors. Peppercorn will pack that dramatic touch your craving without the heavy starkness of black. We used peppercorn as a kitchen island accent at the #lakerileyremodel, and we love how it created the perfect focal point in this open-concept space.
Benjamin Moore HC-166 Kendall Charcoal
Rich, deep, and luxurious, Kendall Charcoal pops beautifully when paired with crisp white room accents and trim. We used this hue of gray in the kid’s bathroom at #thehighlandshouse and paired it with a marble countertop to pack the perfect punch. This gray verges on the warm side and works well with browns and stone colors which is why it combines so well with whites, taupes, browns, and creams.
Sherwin Williams 7043 Wordly Gray
Worldly Gray is a beautiful warm gray paint color that’s often referred to as a “greige” shade. This gray is a chameleon depending on the light but adds a lovely warmth and softness when used correctly. We used Wordly Gray in the renovated kitchen at the #blaineremodel against SW 7024 Functional Gray, and the two shades of gray blended harmoniously together in this space.
