welcome home

Designing a custom home isn’t just about square footage and finishes—it’s about making your day-to-day life easier (and maybe saving your sanity along the way). When kids are in the picture, a few smart design choices can turn chaos into… well, organized chaos. Here are some of our favorite kid-friendly features that are 100% worth adding to your custom home.

Homework Station

Because the kitchen counter can only handle so much math homework and spilled snacks. A built-in homework station gives kids a dedicated spot to study, stash supplies, and actually focus. Bonus: less clutter for you to clean up after dinner.

Charging Stations

Phones, tablets, headphones, laptops—suddenly your kids have more gadgets than you do. A central charging station keeps everything in one place (and gives you the perfect excuse to enforce a “no phones in bedrooms” rule). The most common places we put these are in mudrooms either in/by a drop desk or inside the lockers!

Mudroom with Closed Lockers

Backpacks on the floor. Soccer cleats in the hallway. Coats thrown on chairs. Sound familiar? Closed mudroom lockers give each kid their own “stuff zone” and keep all that mess tucked out of sight. Morning chaos = instantly less chaotic.

Bunk Room

Sleepovers, cousins visiting, or just a fun sibling hangout—bunk rooms are basically kid heaven. Built-in bunks save space, look amazing, and guarantee that your house will officially be “the fun house” for years to come.

Jack and Jill Bathroom with Separate Sinks

Kids + one bathroom = battles. A Jack and Jill setup with separate sinks is the ultimate sibling truce. Everyone gets their own space, their own toothbrush drawer, and less arguing over who’s hogging the mirror.

Flip-Out Stool

No more dragging chairs across the kitchen or balancing on tiptoes to wash hands. A flip-out stool built right into your cabinets makes life easier for kids and parents. They feel independent, you don’t have to trip over random stools—it’s a win-win.

Potty Training Toilet Lid

Let’s be honest: potty training is a season. But a built-in potty training toilet lid makes it so much easier. No more wrestling with clunky seats that never fit right—this genius lid has a kid-sized seat that flips down when you need it and hides away when you don’t.

When it comes to designing a custom home for your family, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. From mudroom lockers to flip-out stools to Jack and Jill bathrooms, these kid-friendly features are the hacks you’ll be grateful for every single day. Think of it as future-proofing your home—and your sanity.
