Do you look in your closet at a hurricane of clothes? Do you have a pile of laundry on your floor that permanently stays there due to lack of space? Want an organized closet, but have zero clue where to start? If you answered YES to any of these questions, today’s post is for you! Organizing your closet can be overwhelming, especially when you don’t know where to start. Today we’re sharing three essential tips to get your closet organized and clutter free!
Tip #1: Declutter & Donate
The first essential step in having an organized closet is going through everything first. Yes, we know this is an exhausting task, but it’s imperative to the process! When going through your closet, a general rule of thumb is: if you haven’t worn it in a year, it’s time to donate! Separate everything between keep and donate so you can easily bag the items you aren’t keeping. Now, you know exactly how much you’ll be putting back into your space allowing you to organize as efficiently as possible!
Tip #2: Organize by Category
Effective organizing means you know exactly where something is when you need it. Organizing your closet by category makes this goal a reality! We suggest organizing by type of clothing (shirts, sweaters, pants, dresses, etc.) Start with your tank tops on the far left and work your way through sleeve length ending with sweaters. Do the same with your pants if you’re choosing to hang those! If you have limited closet space try using a pant hanger or vertical hanger to maximize your space! Additionally, you can utilize under the bed storage bins to keep off season clothing in to help with a congested free closet!
When it comes to organizing your drawers, the best way to keep things tidy is by using drawer organizers! Whether it’s for your undergarments, t-shirts, or pants–drawer organizers keep everything in place and helps avoid your space slowing turning into a mess!
Tip #3: Tidy Up Your Shoes
Is it just us or do your shoes also feel like a lost puppy without a home? Shoes are one of the most neglected items in our closets and usually end up in a pile on the floor or in another room they don’t belong. Similar to our clothing, it’s important to donate shoes you no longer wear. Every inch of closet space is essential! The best way to keep shoes organized, is by using clear storage bins! We love this option from Amazon! Not only does it keep everything tidy, but it also allows you to stack the shoes bins to maximize your space!
Now that your closet is nicely organized you can get creative with your space by adding some motion sensored lights or a fun chandelier to elevate the space!
