1. Soffit
Are you a Christmas decoration fanatic? Well, if you are, you might want to listen up to upgrade your lighting game. Including outlets in your soffits will eliminate those dangling extension cords and create crisp, clean lines when bedazzling your house with Christmas lights!
2. Under Kitchen & Bar Cabinets
These might be one of the best places to add lights to! We literally have these on all the time as soon as the sun goes down- even at night in case you wake up parched and need to go grab a glass of water. Or if you have kids coming home late at night but don’t want to leave all the lights on, these are perfect so that they come in and don’t trip and wake you up from your beauty sleep!
3. Great Room & Office Floor
For all my OCD-ers out there, preplanning floor outlets where you know you will have cords is a MUST. The great room and office are two common places we include in our clients homes, since there will almost always be a lamp on an end table or on a desk. Additionally, they work great for chargers too, so you don’t have yet again more extension cords creating a tripping hazard all over the place!
4. Baseboard
Baseboard outlets are amazing because they become incognito! A requirement for these, however, is matching the outlet cover plate to the paint color of the trim. So if you still have those 25-year-old golden oak baseboards, it might be time to do a little remodel. 😃
5. Pull-Out Drawer & Mudroom Cabinet
If you haven’t heard of a charging station, keep reading because they are an amazing creation! A charging station is a place that all your electronics in your house can charge in one spot, meaning all the cords stay in one place and no one is accusing someone else of stealing someone else’s cords, HA. We love including these in client’s homes, especially in a mudroom cabinet or drawer so you can easily hide the mess!
6. Fireplace Mantle & TV Wall
Are you a serial TV-mounter? Well, outlets are not limited to only 12 inches from the floor. Place wall outlets higher up on your wall where you know you will be hanging a TV, such as in a bedroom, or above your fireplace mantle, so you don’t have to look at the cords stretching to the nearest outlet.
7. Stair Landing
Do you have a landing on your stairs that gets dark and you have tripped one too many times? Consider including an outlet on the landing wall, so you can plug in a night light. You could even plug in your vacuum that doesn’t quite reach all the stairs at once!
8. Pantry & Closet
Create the ULTIMATE organization system in your pantry and closet by placing outlets where you know cleaning supplies and small appliances, like a Dyson vacuum or toaster, will be placed. This will maximize your space in these smaller rooms of your house, so you can cook and clean more efficiently!
9. House Exterior
House exterior outlets are just all-around convenient to have. You never know when you will need to plug something in outside, such as a big Santa blow-up for the middle of your yard. Or maybe you want to light up a sign in your yard for your neighbors to see that says “MOW YOUR LAWN IN MAY.” You couldn’t do something practical like that without the help of a few outdoor outlets on your home.
10. Garage
Whether you like it or not, the world is moving more and more towards electric powered things. When it comes to your garage, get ahead of the curve and have outlets on deck for when you’re ready to make the switch to something like an electric lawn mower. Or go big and install an electric car charger!
11. Attic
Attic outlets are perfect for Casper the Friendly Ghost to iron his clothes in the morning and vacuum to keep the dust at bay. Or if you want to be more practical with this outlet use, you could use it to plug in a radon mitigation fan, if needed, or a digital tv antenna… but Casper will appreciate its practicality more.
12. Next to Toilet
Last but certainly not least… include an outlet by your toilet for a bidet- everyones sought after bathroom upgrade, LOL! But seriously, if you ever want to add a bidet to your bathroom, you will need an outlet to provide power for all the gadgets they come with these days, such as a speaker so you can truly upgrade your bathroom experience…
Remember: the hunt for power doesn’t have to be a wild goose chase through your living room furniture! With a bit of creativity and maybe a few detective skills, you can turn your home into an oasis of accessible energy. So, next time you’re on the prowl for an outlet, think outside the socket and consider these sneaky spots we’ve uncovered. Embrace the power (literally) of knowing where to look, and may your devices always be fully charged and ready for action! Happy outlet hunting!
