A chandelier is a focal point for any room, especially for the dining room, so it’s important to choose one that is the appropriate size for the space. The guidelines for size depend on where you will hang the chandelier. If it’s going to be over a dining table, the general rule is to hang a chandelier
approximately 30-36 inches over a dining table or 60-66 inches above your floor with an 8 foot ceiling height. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet, mount the chandelier an additional 3 inches higher.
The reasoning for this is so guests rising from their seats are less likely to bump their heads on the hanging fixture. If you have low ceilings, you can also consider flush mount chandeliers.
