It’s the start of a new year, and that means it’s time to start looking forward and making some predictions for what’s to come in the design world. We always love to see the way design trends shift from year to year, and this year is bound to bring big changes! Here are some of the biggest shifts we’re seeing for 2020.
Farmhouse is phasing out
Farmhouse has been huge in the past few years. In fact, we haven’t quite seen this level of popularity around a design trend in a long time! As with most things that blow up in popularity, the farmhouse style is phasing out as well. It’s hard to maintain such a popular design style, especially in urban areas that don’t naturally lend themselves to “farmhouse,” and many clients are feeling ready for a more simplistic, streamlined style.
Less all-white-everything, and more warm tones
Neutrals, especially white and grey, have been huge for years (and clearly, we love them!) but we’re seeing a shift away from all the cool neutrals and more toward warm tones! You’ll still see plenty of neutrals, but you can expect to see more beige, taupe and mushroom shades in walls, cupboards and more.
Natural wood
We’re seeing more and more clients opt for lighter, natural toned wood. We especially love white oak in our builds right now! It’s classic, simple, and works well with a wide variety of design styles.
Bold, moody colors
We’re loving the recent trend of pops of bold, moody color, especially black, dark grey, olive and navy. Whether it’s a black or navy accent wall, dark cabinets or an island, or just dark hardware for some added interest, you can expect to see much more bold contrast in decor this year.
