The weather is finally starting to warm up, and we have spring cleaning on our minds! It can definitely feel overwhelming, though – so we’re setting out to inspire you with some organizational projects that take just a few hours out of your weekend, so you can soak up some sunshine, too!
Tackle your pantry
With some strategic organization, you can de-clutter your pantry and keep it that way! Start by getting rid of foods that are far beyond their expiration dates, then sorting items into categories however makes sense for you. Buy some airtight canisters to transfer dried goods into from their original containers to make your pantry super organized and gorgeous, too! Use larger bins or baskets to organize snacks, canned goods, etc. If you really want to go crazy, make labels, too! We love an organized pantry!
Sort through your clothes
We’re all guilty of wearing the same few outfits week after week and completely neglecting half our wardrobe, right (or is that just me?) Take a hint from Marie Kondo and pull everything out from your closet – if it doesn’t fit, you don’t like it, or it hasn’t been worn in a year, donate it! Bonus: you might find some “new” pieces you totally forgot about!
Go through paperwork and mail
If you have a home office (or just a desk you pile mail on, no judgement here), you probably have an assortment of paperwork you haven’t gotten around to sorting through. Start with mail, making “file,” “shred,” and “recycle” piles, and make sure to put everything away/dispose of everything accordingly! Set yourself up for success by using document baskets or trays to be able to sort through mail more easily in the future. Also take a deep dive into your existing “maybe we’ll need that someday” documents – I guarantee you have a lot of papers that are no longer necessary! Make sure any important documents are filed away in a safe and secure place.
Simplify your bathroom space
Bathroom counters and cupboards can be the first to get cluttered and messy – especially when multiple people are sharing one bathroom for all their toiletries and grooming essentials! As with most organizational projects, this one will mean making a bit of a mess first, but pull everything out from under the bathroom sink and in cabinets, and get rid of anything that’s super old, empty, or no longer something you use. Utilize bins, baskets and shelves to organize products based on type or person. Do your best to avoid storing toiletries on the counters, since that’s a sure way to make your bathroom look cluttered. If it’s absolutely necessary, use a tray or countertop organizer to keep everything in one place.
Of course, the most challenging part of tackling a home organization project is keeping it organized once it’s done. What are your favorite ways to keep your home neat and tidy? Make sure to share your tips with us below, and on Instagram @AlmaHomes! Happy (almost) spring!
