welcome home

There’s something about the first few warm weeks of spring that makes us want to freshen things up, and there’s no better time to get things neat and organized in your home! We’re sharing the ultimate list of spring cleaning and organizing to tackle in your house this year.

Freshen up the kitchen

The kitchen is a great starting point for deep cleaning in your home; the daily dishes and countertop wipe-down doesn’t get your kitchen truly clean, especially when you want it safe for cooking and eating! Work your way from top to bottom, and think about the areas you usually don’t pay much attention to. Here a few tasks to get you started!

  • Clean your dishwasher, microwave, fridge and range, inside and out
  • Clean your smaller appliances, like coffee makers, toasters and blender
  • Wipe down the inside of cabinets and drawers
  • Clean ice and water dispensers on your fridge
  • Go through your pantry and fridge and dispose of old or expired food (and check your spice rack, too!)

Scrub the bathrooms

Bathroom cleanliness goes a lot further than clean counters, sinks and toilets. Give your shower and tub a full wipe-down, wash the floors (you wouldn’t believe how gross the grout between tile can get!) and take the cleaning opportunity to get rid of old toiletries and other items taking up space in your bathrooms. Don’t forget to clean faucets and shower heads that can get gross build-up, too.

Think small

You probably vacuum your floors and do laundry regularly, but think about the home cleaning details that you more easily miss. Clean windows (interior and exterior), dust your blinds, wipe down baseboards, and dust light fixtures and fans. Think about the hidden areas in your home, like vents and ducts, and consider having them cleaned as well.

Check your laundry room

Along with your kitchen appliances, your washer and dryer might need a refresh! Clean your washing machine using bleach, vinegar or specialized washing machine cleaner, and clean your dryer vent screen and the vent itself with a vacuum cleaner. Wipe down the outside of your machines and countertops, and get rid of any old or empty detergent containers lying around.

Declutter your space

It’s always a good time to take inventory of your home and work on de-cluttering things you don’t need. Sort through your clothes, books, decor and kitchen items, setting aside “donate” and “throw” piles for things you no longer need. You’d be surprised how much clearing up space makes your home so much more relaxing!

Set up organizational systems

I don’t know about you, but seeing organized drawers, closets and pantries is so refreshing! Tons of stores have great deals on baskets and organizers in the spring – take advantage of it and get your spaces organized! We have a whole post about organization in your home here. Our favorite spaces to look at and organize are your kitchen and pantry, laundry room and closets!

We want to hear about your system for deep cleaning your home, and the organizational projects you’re tackling this spring! Let us know in the comments below, and over on Instagram too @Almahomes!
