welcome home

Here’s to wishing that the laundry could fold itself! While we can’t make that happen (yet), we CAN share our favorite laundry room features that make doing laundry seem like a littleee less of a chore.

An efficient laundry room should incorporate lots of storage space so there is plenty of room for your laundry supplies. When planning, we suggest keeping to a task-based design for maximum efficiency. We believe in spending as little time in the laundry room as possible, so we’re all about maximizing efficiency.

1. Pull Out Laundry Hamper

If there is one thing that every laundry room has, it is laundry baskets galore. But the million-dollar question is where to put them. When space allows, we love to have the hampers built in to a pull-out cabinet, or resting on a shelf specially designed for them. It helps to keep the laundry room neat and tidy with a home for everything.

2. Raised Washer and Dryer

Raising your washer and dryer off the ground is great for so many reasons. First of all, you aren’t bending over AND kneeling all the time when you’re doing laundry. Trust us, your back and knees will thank you! Not only that, but if you keep space underneath your washer and dryer, you can use that space to tuck laundry baskets out of the way.

Some people opt for a set of pedestals that you can order with the washer and dryer, which is a great option as well. These give you some drawer space, which is great for detergent, dryer sheets, you name it!

3. Hanging Rod

We don’t know about you, but we air dry SO many things. So to avoid having clothes draped all over the house, we almost always include some sort of hanging rod in the laundry rooms we design so clients can hang dry delicates.

4. Sweater Drying Racks

One of our most requested features is our custom sweater drying racks. We have these built by our local cabinet shop and they are seriously life savers! Much like with the hanging rod, having a dedicated place to lay your sweaters flat to dry keeps everything neat and tidy, and it helps avoid those awful shoulder bumps you get when you hang sweaters to dry.

5. Laundry Sink

Having a sink in your laundry room is a must have in our book. It’s great for soaking or treating clothes (amongst sooo many other things!).

So there you have it, the 5 must-have laundry room features that we continue to suggest time and time again! Which design feature are you going to incorporate into your laundry room?
