We recently shared a blog all about curtain window treatments, and now it’s time for blinds! Blinds act as functional pieces in a room where you may want to filter light, but not all of them are purely function. Roman shades and roller shades are blinds we use the most in our clients homes because of the elegant style of them, but we also included a couple of budget-friendly styles that are popular as well. Read more to learn how to upgrade the blinds in your home.
Roman Shades
If you are looking to elevate your boring window, roman shades are the right choice. They look stunning in any space, so you can’t go wrong in choosing where to install these. Roman shades look stylish both when they are rolled up or down, and are the most attractive choice if you leave them raised most of the time. They come in a variety of fabrics and range from sheer to black out, but the best part is that you can make them automatic!
Roller Shades
Roller shades are a classic window treatment if you’re looking for a sleek look. When rolled up, they can blend in with the top of the window so you barely notice they are there. When they are rolled down they provide a modern yet simple look. These shades also are offered in a variety of fabrics, light control options, as well as a motorized option- for those of us who will sleep with the blinds open just because we don’t want to get up and close them…
Wood Blinds
I’m not sure many people know these blinds by their real name, which is venetian blinds, but I’m sure these come to mind when thinking about blinds in general. Technically, these can come in metal as well, but we don’t recommend buying those unless you’re in the mood to time travel back to 1970- and NOT in a cool retro way. Hence why we named these wood blinds, so that we lead you in the direction of wood blinds versus the outdated aluminum ones. These blinds are a good option if your budget is slim pickings, especially for spaces like bedrooms where you want to open and close them frequently and easily.
Honeycomb Shades
Honeycomb shades are good blinds for insulation. Plus, their thermal qualities don’t come at a steep price point, they are an affordable option for just about any space in your home. While these won’t win any awards for an elegant style, they do offer a sharp, clean look with the addition of functionality.
If you missed our blog about window curtains, you can click here for more window treatment knowledge and inspiration. While we are all for an abundance of natural light anywhere and everywhere throughout a home, curtains and blinds offer not only aesthetic decor, but also function as privacy and light filters in spaces like bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens. Roman and roller shades are our favorites, but wood blinds and honeycomb shades work great too for spaces like bedrooms where you might want a more budget-friendly option. Either way, it’s time to replace those fugly aluminum blinds.
