As the first big snow of this winter is currently falling outside, all we can think about is going back to bed and cuddling up with a Netflix marathon or a good book. I mean seriously, who doesn’t want to play hooky from work on a cold winter day? We have a few tried-and-true strategies for making your bed as welcoming and stylish as possible, especially during the winter months.

Keep it neutral

We probably sound like a broken record at this point, but picking neutral base bedding is a great way to have a simple base to build off of. If you keep your comforter and sheets a neutral tone, all you have to do is swap out accent blankets and pillows for a decor change without a ton of extra time and money.

Invest in quality bedding

If you’ve shopped for bedding lately, you know it’s not cheap! It can be tempting to go the bargain route when buying sheets and comforters for your bed, but you’ll thank yourself in the long run for investing in quality pieces that will last! We like using a high-quality down or down-alternative comforter with a duvet cover, since a cover is easy to wash and cheaper to replace if you want to redecorate. Just keep in mind that you usually get what you pay for. This goes for your mattress, too!

Layers!

The key to that sought-after cozy, fluffy bed is utilizing layers! Start with a great mattress, add an optional mattress pad, and then layer on high quality sheets, a thin blanket (for winter months), and a comforter. A throw blanket on top of the comforter is a great option to take on or off the bed as needed. Finish styling your bed with layers of pillows for comfort and style!

Vary your textures

Especially when you’re using mostly neutrals, it’s so important to add interest to spaces in your home (and bed!) using a variety of different textures. Add Accents

This goes along with our texture tip – no one wants plain neutrals with no variety thrown in! Use pops of color and pattern to add interest and style to your bed without overwhelming your space. We like to pick one or two accent colors, and pick pillows and blankets with a few different patterns or styles within the same scheme. That way, it’s not too “matchy,” but everything still looks cohesive!
