welcome home

Did you know we’re actually psychics and can predict the future? Ha, kidding. But we do have a sense of what the 2024 trends are in interior design. Working in the industry gives you an insight of what is on it’s way out and what is on it’s way in before they reach their peak, and if we had to sum up the 2024 interior design trends in one word, it would be warmth. From colors to textures, this year is all about cozying up your home and adding a rich, elevated feeling. Keep reading below to learn different ways to do just that.

1. Dark, Moody Color Palettes

A trend we saw last year that will continue gaining popularity into the new year is using dark, moody colors. Gone are the days of all white everything. We love incorporating darker tones on cabinets, walls, even ceilings, to give a rich, elevated feel.

2. Burgundy and Plum in Paint and Furnishings

I’m not going to lie, red is one of my least favorite colors, second only to oh, I don’t know…neon orange? So while I don’t know if I’ll ever get behind a true, bright red in interior design, a warm muted burgundy is something I can’t get enough of right now. Along those lines, expect to see more plum shades making their way into paint and cabinetry this year.

3. Taupe

Along the warmer paint color line – taupe has been having a moment for a couple years now, but it is truly becoming the new neutral. If you previously were a fan of white kitchens, try a softer, warmer mushroom-y tone to keep your kitchen feeling light and neutral, but just a bit warmer.

4. Natural/Warm Textures

Along with the earthy colors is definitely the earthy textures. We have been selecting more rough stones, stucco, and raw wood textures with clients to capture a more natural feel in homes. Try incorporating stone on fireplace surrounds, backsplashes, even walls, to add a lot of warmth and great texture to your space. Just keep it in a lighter tone to prevent it from feeling too heavy.

5. Darker, Warm Woods

While light and medium wood tones have been super popular in the past years, we’ve been seeing an increase in the darker tones recently and we love the warmth it brings to a space. We see this predominately in cabinets and furniture (we generally recommend staying away from really dark wood on your hardwood floors because it. shows. EVERYTHING).

6. Leather and Plaid Furniture and Accents

Spoiler alert: did you know that interior design trends follow fashion? So bust out your riding boots because some of the preppy, cigar-lounge inspired textiles are back in, and in a big way. In 2024, you can expect to see a lot more leather, in obvious places such as furniture, as well as some not so obvious places like light fixtures or cabinet hardware. We also expect to see a great deal of warmer plaids. This can be through pillows, rugs, wallpaper, upholstery, you name it.

7. Bold Marble

Marble is one of our favorite natural materials because it comes in so many different colors and patterns, yet it is timeless in and of itself. This year, you can expect to see a lot more marble throughout homes, particularly in warmer tones and with bolder patterns. Bonus points if you opt for one with burgundy veining.

8. Artisanal Tile

Along those lines, handcrafted, artisanal tiles will continue to have a major presence in 2024. The handcrafted nature adds a lot of warmth, but if you don’t want to splurge on true handcrafted tiles, there are many alternates that are mass produced that still have a handcrafted look and texture. Try incorporating neutral tiles in interesting shapes, or opt for a terracotta tile to really dial up the warmth factor.

9. Smart Home Integration

No, robots aren’t going to take over your home, but yes, integrating technology into your home will make your life much easier. We’ve been installing everything from smart locks, lights, garage door openers, blinds, to speakers and charging stations throughout homes to help clients manage their home with ease.
